Each year, Be The Change MN partners with Mall of America to transform Nickelodeon Universe into a true Winter Wonderland, a magical morning filled with joy, family connection, and belonging. On Sunday, December 6, 2026, we will welcome 1,000 elementary students (Pre-K–5th grade) and their families from Hmong Academy and Richard Green Central Elementary, two schools serving underrepresented communities in Minneapolis.

What began as a simple idea has grown into a powerful tradition that now brings together more than 3,000 attendees, including over 200 dedicated volunteers, community partners, sponsors, and school faculty. Together, we create an unforgettable morning filled with warmth, laughter, and hope. For many of the children who attend, Winter Wonderland is their holiday celebration, an opportunity to experience the magic of the season surrounded by kindness, generosity, and care. For some, it is their very first visit to the Mall of America or their first opportunity to experience the excitement of Nickelodeon Universe.

Dedicated school faculty members also volunteer their time, creating meaningful connections with students and families beyond the classroom. These shared moments of joy strengthen relationships between teachers, parents, and students, fostering trust, belonging, and a sense of community that extends well beyond the event itself.

Thanks to the generosity of our sponsors and community partners, every aspect of Winter Wonderland is provided completely free of charge. From transportation, admission, and meals prepared by local culinary chefs to toys, books, warm winter coats, and essential winter accessories, our goal is to remove financial barriers while ensuring every child feels valued, supported, and celebrated.

This year, our focus is on providing 1,000 students with brand-new, warm winter coats and winter essentials to help protect them from Minnesota’s harsh winter weather. With quality winter coats valued at approximately $80–$120 each, these gifts represent far more than warmth. They provide comfort, confidence, dignity, and peace of mind for families who may be facing financial challenges. Every coat is a reminder to a child that their community cares about their well-being and that they deserve to feel safe, warm, and supported.

The magic continues throughout the morning as community partners come together to create experiences that children and families will remember for years to come. From opportunities to connect with community resources and health and wellness partners to the joy of Build-A-Bear, face painting, interactive activities, music, photo experiences, and exciting surprises, every detail is thoughtfully designed to create a celebration where families can simply enjoy being together.

Winter Wonderland is so much more than a holiday event. It is a celebration of love, unity, generosity, and what is possible when a community comes together with a shared purpose. It is about easing the financial burdens families often experience during the winter months while creating lasting memories and ensuring children feel the joy and wonder of the season.
